Rolf Annerberg

Sustainable Biofuels is one of six programmes making up the Top-level Research Initiative, which held a kick-off meeting recently at the Nordic Centre in Oslo on June 12th. The initiative is focuses on climate, energy and environment, and is the largest joint Nordic research and innovation initiative to date.

The six sub-programmes are as follows:

  • Sustainable biofuels
  • Integration of large-scale wind power
  • Effect studies and adaptation to climate change
  • Climate change’s interaction with the cryosphere
  • Nanotechnology and energy efficiency
  • Carbon capture and storage

The organisation of the initiative consists of a Strategic Management Board, six Programme Committees for each of the sub-programmes, and a secretariat represented by three Nordic institutions: NordForsk, Nordic Innovation Centre and Nordic Energy Research. Nordic Energy Research is leads the Sustainable biofuels and Integration of large-scale wind power programmes. The first calls will be made later in 2009. At the kick-off meeting Chairman of the Strategic Management Board, Rolf Annerberg, highlighted the potential for fruitful Nordic cooperation in the climate, energy and the environment sectors. ”This is the largest research and innovation program in the Nordic context ever. There are enormous opportunities for research in these areas, and this is definitely something we must work together to achieve”. For further information, see the initiative‘s website
