The following country policy assessment report has been prepared in the frame of the INTERREG IVB project Bioenergy Promotion which is coordinated by the Swedish Energy Agency involving 33 partners from the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) including Norway. The document is part of the activities conducted in Work Package 3 (Policy) which is coordinated by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in co-operation with the Environmental Policy Research Centre of the Freie Universität Berlin. The main aim of this work package is to support the development of coherent national and (sub) regional policies promoting the sustainable production and consumption of bioenergy. The purpose of this document is to describe the main promotional policies and support schemes for bioenergy and to assess to what extent national policy frameworks integrate sustainability principles and criteria and contribute to Sustainable Development.
